Is Passbook worth my time?

Or is it another monument to uselessness like QR codes are?

I noticed that a few event-ticketing companies are now sending out Passbook attachments with their tickets. I'd never seen one in the wild before this week.

If it wasn't much trouble, I suppose including a .pkpass attachment with the DNA Lounge ticket-purchase-confirmation emails would be useful, so that the ticket info showed up on your iPhone's lock screen. However, it actually seems to be quite a lot of trouble indeed: as far as I can tell, you can't even create a .pkpass file at all without paying Apple $100/year.

Imagine if it cost $100/year for you to be able to create an event in iCal. Madness.

(We have QR codes printed on our take-out menus and sandwich discount cards. Guess how many times any of our QR codes were scanned in 2013? Give up? 3. The answer is 3. And one of those might have been me.)

Previously, previously.
